Colin Sure Start Additional Needs Service

1st Dec 2017

Our Additional Needs Service is now well established and continues to expand to meet the needs of the growing number of families living in the Colin Area who have children with Additional Needs. We do this through our Little Rainbows group, Parent & Toddler Support Group, and Home visiting service. If you have concerns about any aspect of your child’s development, understanding or play skills then a member of our team would be happy to talk you through the options of support that are available.

Little Rainbows;
Little Rainbows is the name of our Additional Needs Group which runs throughout the school year (from Sep-June) 2 afternoons a week. This year we are using St Lukes Family Centre (Cara House in Twinbrook) as our venue and it is proven to be a great success. This group facilitates 8 children and 3 members of trained staff are allocated to provide intensive supervision and support.

Additional Support Play Programme;
Our Additional Support Play Programme operates on a weekly basis and runs from the Sure Start mobile behind St Kieran’s Nursery School (located within the Primary School grounds). This group is specifically intended for parents who have concerns regarding their child’s development or behaviour. The group is very relaxed and caters really well to children who cope better in smaller settings. We offer a range of sensory and messy play and a safe space to explore and learn.

Home Visiting Service;
After meeting with you and your child in the home we then write up a care plan which lays out the work which will we complete over a number of weeks. We will then arrange a day and time that suits to come out to your house and carry out a focused piece of work with you and your child together. Most of the work which we carry out in the house focuses on trying to develop your child’s play skills, providing stimulation, and guiding you as a parent in how you can best meet your child’s developing needs. This service operates as we receive referrals from health visitors and health professionals but you can also self-refer as a parent. If you feel that you would like a member of the Additional Needs team to call out and complete a home visit please get in touch by calling the office.
